BLOTTER is a Hard Rock band From North Carolina, check out our introduction to them, below…
What are the origins of BLOTTER, how long have you been playing together?
BLOTTER began as a cover band playing songs we grew up hearing and loving. We eventually learned to write our own music and began recording. We consist currently of three main members: Timmy Pollock, lead and rhythm guitar. Trey Bennett, lead and rhythm guitar. And Jimbo Wainwright, bass guitar. We all share the load when it comes to lead and backup vocals. With the current line-up, Timmy and Jimbo have been performing together for over 15 years with Trey joining a little over 10 years ago.
What should people expect when they check BLOTTER? How would you describe yourself?
They can expect us to give 100% every time we perform! That’s how our heroes do it, and that’s what we try to emmulate. Music-wise we are a 100% DIY band. We write, record, and produce our own music.
How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!
We’ve been playing together for a long time. It’s kind of hard to really remember the very first show we played. Though we can say that every show we play there is always a sense of nervousness. It’s just a normal part of being an entertainer!
The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?
For us, we try and make sure we’re not just doing something because it’s the “cool thing” to do or what everyone else is doing. We try to be true to who we are as musicians and make content that people can enjoy while still leaving us satisfied. We’re always trying to move forward.
What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?
We just released our second full-length album, New Horizon, on March 1st! It’s the first time we all contributed to the songwriting process, and had an absolute blast recording it!
In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel BLOTTER would be best suited to open for?
Of course, we’re nowhere near the same level, but if we could choose anybody at all it would be bands like KISS, Ghost, Greta Van Fleet, Black Label Society, or Alice Cooper.
Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?
We recently opened for a band out of Omaha, Nebraska called The Midnight Devils. Those guys absolutely kick ass live, and definitely deserve to break out! Anybody reading this should go check those guys out now!
What are your own first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?
Besides hearing bands and songs our parents listened to growing up there was definitely a light bulb moment when we all heard the album Alive! by KISS. That was when we were all like “dude, that’s how we want to play live!”
What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?
For Timmy and Trey it was KISS on their End of the Road tour. Jimbo’s last concert was Iron Maiden’s Legacy of the Beast tour. Both shows were absolutely tremendous!
What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?
We don’t take sides on social or political issues. Leave that to social justice warriors and politicians. BLOTTER is an American rock and roll band. We focus on music. Our personal opinions should not matter.
The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?
It is different for each of us. Timmy is a huge Frank Zappa fan, and always says Apostrophe is his favorite Zappa album. Jimbo really digs funkier bands so Kool & the Gang’s Wild and Peaceful album is a mainstay in his playlist. Trey loves anything with Jason Becker.
There were some amazing new albums released last year, what would be your album of 2022? And, what other new music have you been enjoying so far this year?
Our favorite from 2022 is Ghost’s album Impera. That album had some really great songs on it, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. This year we’ve spent most of our free time working on our own album, and haven’t really listened to much new music. So we’ll be selfish for this answer and say New Horizon from BLOTTER.
What does 2023 hold for BLOTTER?
We’re about to begin recording sessions for an acoustic album that we’ve been dying to do for years. That will take up most of our time for the near future. Later this year we plan on beginning another album with material that didn’t make it onto New Horizon. Besides that, we’ve begun booking shows for the summer, and working on a brand new website for the band!
