Interview: Daniel Seekings from Bad Touch

Hi Daniel. First of all, new album ‘Shake A Leg’ has just been released, do you get nervous in the days leading up to the release? Third studio album… Bad Touch are old hands at this malarkey! “Not completely. It’s a little nerve-racking, but we are all excited to hear what people think and whether they enjoy the album.” The response to the album has been fantastic, so nothing to worry about there! One thing that I felt about the album was that the production was incredible. Andy Hodgson did a fantastic job! “Ah, that’s great! We had a great time working with Andy. We took a completely different approach to recoding ‘Shake A Leg’, and Andy really helped us. We spent a long time playing with different sounds to try and find what we thought was best for each track.” It was mastered at Abbey Road Studios. Did you tag along when this was taking place to check the place out? “No, unfortunately not. I would have loved to have gone down and checked it out and heard it mastered for the first time there. I’ve heard that it’s got a great atmosphere, but we were all too busy.” Previous Bad Touch album ‘Truth Be Told’ was released late 2016. How long did it take you to get the songs together for ‘Shake A Leg’? Had they been brewing for a while? “Like I said before, we took a completely different approach to this album, and part of that was writing the songs in the studio as we went. We only went into the studio with two songs, but we knew we had to get our heads down and write new songs. Some of the ideas we had for a while, but most of it was written there and then.” I have to ask about the two songs that bring the album to a close. ‘Slow Tempest’ is a real slow-burning epic that gets better with each listen, followed by the stripped back ‘Bury Me (When I’m Gone). What’s the story behind the pair? Was it always the intention to have a low-key ending to the album? Lastly, will you be playing them live? “Thank you! No not completely. I think originally, we were going to end the album with just ‘Slow Tempest’ which we felt had the same feeling as ‘The Mountain’, which was the end track on ‘Truth Be Told’, but there were a lot of track listings thrown around and ending on ‘Bury Me’ really seemed to shine through. Unfortunately, neither of them will be in the upcoming live shows.” Ah that’s a shame. So what songs have Bad Touch been trying out for the impending tour? “From ‘Shake A Leg’? Quite a lot. I think there will be 8 or 9 songs from the new album in the set. We can’t wait to get out there and play them live!” The tour is what I would call a “proper tour”; eighteen dates ranging from Inverness to Cornwall!Bad Touch are putting in some mileage on this one! “Ha-ha thanks! It’s a good one. We love to try and get to as many places as we can. We love being on the road.” I also noticed that Bad Touch have eleven days to recover after the gig at Bannerman’s in Edinburgh. You’ve obviously noticed the impressive range of spirits behind the bar then? “Well, Scotland is always a good night for us. We love it there, so with us doing three headline shows, we thought we’d need a rest after that! hahaha!” After the heat in Bannermans, a rest will be well needed! With Aaron Buchanan and The Cult Classics on the tour, as well as Daxx & Roxanne, it’s very much a real value for money ticket. This could be a real benchmark for future multi-band line-ups. “Wow! Well, I really appreciate that. I do think it’s a great line up, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of both bands!” Lastly, what’s the plan for Bad Touch in 2019? Kentucky Headhunters are back over next year. You are playing much the same venues as headliners this year, but if they asked, would you go out with them again as support act? “Hopefully to get back out on the road! The plan is to hopefully move into Europe and do some higher profile support slot, then as many of the festivals as we can! Haha! We wouldn’t turn it down straight away, put it that way. Those guys have been great to us, and we owe them a lot. They’re some of the best and nicest guys in the business!” Bad Touch’s new album ‘Shake A Leg’ is out now. They are on tour from Wednesday 17th October until Monday 19th November. Tour dates here. Questions: Dave Band image on header: Rob Blackham]]>
